At 9pm on Thursday evening, David Bowie unveiled a brand new track, as a teaser for his upcoming album (titled as the symbol ★) to be released around the singers birthday in 2016. Blackstar, with its 10 minute long music video accompanied the release and is a cinematic odyssey, intensely creepy, surreal and depicting a futuristic nightmarish scene.
As avant-garde as you would want from the one and only. We just know that we're going to be spending our weekend re-watching it over and over in an attempt to make sense of the convulsing lace dressed women, withering scarecrows, eerie eyes and melancholic day of reckoning.
With a prominent a jazz influence to this title track, it certainly is a taster of something new from the king of transformation and reinvention. Take 10 minutes out of your day to immerse yourself in Bowie's new release below.
Beth Jeans Houghton is back. But now as Du Blonde, and she isn't pulling any punches. Having released her album earlier this year, we're excited to see where this punkier, more abstract version of Houghton is going to take us. Buckle up.
Sparks is the latest offering from Beach House's long anticipated new album. This dream pop tune gives us Twin Peaks kind of vibes, and that is never a bad thing.
Rounding up the week and seeing us through the weekend, it's all we're playing at NAVY studios.
It's Friday. And we're playing some of our favourite tunes in the NAVY office to get us pumped for the long weekend. Including the formidable Sonic Youth, one of the best noisy rock bands to come from NYC in the 80s.
Delivering chaotic guitar riffs and noisy alternative rock, Sonic Youth also delivered us the pinnacle of cool that is Kim Gordon. A woman who has crossed the genres of art, music and fashion. Forever on team Kim.
Take a listen and get rilled up for the long weekend. Thank God it's Friday.
These LA cool girls from Girlpool are getting us through Tuesday at NAVY HQ. Striped back guitar and shrill punchy lyrics about taking no shit from boys will get you fired up with Girlpool girl power. Check out Blah Blah Blah and Chinatown below for your Tuesday fix of Girlpool ♫
So we all agree that MØ is pretty cool right? The Danish songstress is top of our playlist today, taking us to the weekend with her smooth vocals and swirling electro beats.
MØ has been captivating us at NAVY HQ with her tunes for a since the release of her her debut album, No Mythologies to Follow, earlier this year. It's defiantly one we recommend to check out if you haven't heard it yet.
We're especially fond of her cover of Spice Girl's Say You'll Be There which brings the 90s spinning back into focus but with MØ's infectious signature beats bringing it bang up to date.
For now, we're loving Walk This Way. The music video for which saw MØ teaming up with iD magazine to style and has just won her one of many gongs at the Danish Music Video Awards.
Getting us to the weekend in the NAVY studio is the best rock band of the 80s. The Pretenders lead singer and songwriter Chrissie Hynde is one of our favourite female artists of all time. A true rock icon having taking the band through numerous ups and downs, including drug problems, the death of key band members and endless line up changes. Staying cool, stylish and fierce as ever throughout.
We've picked out our three favourite Pretenders songs to share the Friday feeling with you.
All about dreamy bohemian dressing mixed with a quintessentially rock & roll attitude. Available from Zalando & Topshop, Oxford Circus.
