Now that fashion week has finished in London, having already got underway in Milan, it's time to review the week that was and check out the biggest Autumn Winter 2017 trends. Last week we were checking out the looks from the streets of New York. This week it's all about London. With LFW offering much milder weather, fashion week-goers had much more scope to show off their style. The streets of London Fashion Week were instead all about volume, with OTT ruffles and layers of tulle spotted all over town

As with NYFW street style, we noticed a definite 90s influence for many of the looks this side of the pond, with plenty of textured torn denim, tinted sunnies and those AW17 fishnet finishes.

This season, prepare to go all out sheerness. On the catwalks of Spring Summer, we saw sheer layers taking a more punchy and unapologetic look. Ethereal semi-transparent tulle and lots of lace layers added a more casual feel to what could otherwise be a very risque trend.

Blurring the lines between day and night, sheer has officially become something to incorporate across your whole SS17 wardrobe.

Channel some attitude and add a punky kick to this traditionally feminine trend, just like Dior, Coach and Osman. Or embrace the etherial floaty style so common with Spring, taking inspiration from Molly Goddard, Valentino and Rodarte. The party season is upon us. A time of year when our diaries are bulging with reasons to celebrate, from the Christmas do to your big NYE blow out and everything in between. So, of course you need a wardrobe to rise to the occassion.

Things have gone dotty this season. Polka dots, whether mini spots or large bold dots were all around the AW16 catwalks. Especially in sheer form, the easiest way to add some subtle spotty details to your look without overwhelming your outfit. Keeping away from prim and pretty polka dot, sheer spot layers add that element of grown up gothic influence to your look. Perfect for your Winter wardrobe this year.

With Autumn Winter comes the darker months, highlighted even more so by the darkness of Halloween. Adding a gothic twist and influence to all things, including the world of fashion.

Inspired by the season, 'Death Becomes Her (New Orleans)' is a fashion editorial capturing just how black lace layers are the perfect accompaniment for this time of year. Stylist Ali McNally works the witchy black lace with a number of NAVY pieces to capture the depth and darkness of this season.

Gigi goes all out lace for VOGUE Japan. Styled up in the lastest AW16 lace looks from he likes of Gucci, Alexander Wang and Alberta Ferretti too.

So many current trends in fashion are all about taking those traditionally soft and feminine elements, but making unapologetically bold and striking instead.

At the moment, AW16 is all about big and bold ruffle silhouettes. But one thing we have learned from the latest run of shows at London Fashion Week is that those ruffles, frills and high collars are here to stay. And are getting even bigger and bolder than before.

If it's for Spring Summer 2017, then it needs ruffles. Whether up, down, sideways or all around, SS17 is all about taking traditional femininity and adding a touch of 80s power dressing, or turning it dark with a punky attitude and edgy accessories.
