NAVY London Blog
The haute couture collection for any designer, is the one opportunity to really express their true creativity and most outrageous concepts. A collection to show off their imagination, expertise and technical skill.

Last week saw the Autumn/Winter 2014 couture collections of only the biggest designers shown in Paris. The vast majority of designers, including Chanel, Valentino, Raf Simons, Dior, Versace and more, expertly constructed collections drawing on historical themes with a big dose of modernity added to bring them bang up to date.

A concept which can so often be over-used and tired, was delivered with a fresh take and a huge nod to contemporary styling and simplicity that steered away from being yet another seen-it-all-before idea. The fact that couture is so deeply rooted in tradition helps and also in many ways explains this popular theme.

Valentine Haute Couture AW14
Valentino turned to the pre-Raphaelite era for inspiration, delivering golden details and tapestry patches mixed with modern silhouettes and sheer materials.

Versace Haute Couture AW14
Versace simply offered up take on modern couture. A futuristic collection with Versace’s signature thigh-high spits and mini-skirt dresses which still managed to draw upon the 90s vibes very much at large in the fashion world right now.

Chanel Haute Couture AW14
Chanel combined Marie Antoinette with the 80s. Romantic silver embellishments mixed with new-wave quiffs. Both combined of course with classic Chanel tweed. And yes, it works.

Three big names who all proved their true expertise and creativity. Taking a similar trend, working it their own way and producing fresh exquisite collections.
