A joint exhibition in LA between two of it's biggest museums, is home to the biggest retrospective of renowned photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. From his iconic portraits of best friend Patti Smith, to Mapplethorpe's insightful self portraits to his radical journey through the underground sex scene of New York in the 80s.
Away from the controversies of the time and the political outrage at a gay artist's sexualised work, today, these exhibitions give us a chance to really view Mapplethorpe's ability as a photographer. The fine detail, the delicate yet stark lighting and the photographic composition.

What do we love the most about festival season? Festival fashion! Especially when you can really pin your festival look down to an specific festival look and an iconic era.
For those of you heading down to this years Isle of Wight Festival, we trust you will be dressing accordingly! At NAVY HQ, we have thrown together our ideal Isle of Wight Festival look to give you a little inspiration. Fully channeling some boho 70s vibes and inspired by one of the festival’s most legendary performances.
In 1970, the over 500,000 people descended upon the Isle of Wight to see a performance by the one and only Jimi Hendrix. We’re drawn inspiration from this peace-loving and boho era to pull this look together, and you can’t get a true boho look without some fringing! A big trend throughout SS14 and into AW14, we think investing in some awesome fringed pieces now is a great idea. When we first heard Sharon Van Etten, there was a collective awe for the soothing vocals and sweet tune being played. Delivering a tune full of heartache and pain, yet effortless endearing.
A super cool chick, Sharon Van Etten is a New York born singer and songwriter. Producing songs full of playful yet epic narratives of lost love, heartbreak and emotion.
We think she is great for chilling out to, for lazing in the sunshine, and for soothing away any worries and stresses. Perfect for getting you through Friday, or relaxing with on a Sunday, or even easing you back into work on a Monday. Pretty much any day of the week we’re happy to listen to a bit of Sharon!
You may have already heard many of her tunes before. She is an artist who has worked long and hard to get where she is today, but now, she has refined her songwriting to really deliver some raw lyrics and enlightening performances.
