iwd 2017 quote

Today marks International Women's Day. A day to celebrate women's achievements, successes and to encourage discussion of gender equality.

So often, the ladies above are our muses, our icons and our inspiration here at NAVY. So we've picked out a handful of quotes by some of the women above, as well as a few others, to give you motivation on this day. Hopefully, quotes to inspire you to further yourselves and work towards the goals that International Women's Day sets out to achieve.

We're getting those weekend vibes here at NAVY HQ, and who better to get us in that Friday spirit? Always looking like a blonde bombshell, Debbie and co delivered so many top tunes that are bound to get you grooving along.
Here at NAVY, picked out the best hits for today's playlist to ease us into Friday and get us ready for the weekend. So enjoy a bit of Blondie to brighten up your day too...

Somerset House is the perfect location in London for wasting away a few hours, emersing yourself in a little but of art and culture. Our latest trip down to Somerset House allowed us a chance to check out the 'Chris Stein / Negative: Me, Blondie, and the Advent of Punk' exhibition currently on at the East Wing Galleries.

Large scales prints of Chris Stein's candid and at times intimate photographs, track the emergence of the New Wave era of music and the rise of Blondie through the 70s and 80s. Having co-founded Blondie alongside Debbie Harry, Stein had a front row seat for this underground musical culture and was there every step of the way to world domination at the hands of Blondie.

Alongside each huge image, are short anecdotes and tales of the New Wave era explaining a little background information about the snapshot in time as captured by Stein. His character, personality and passion showing through.

Stein managed to capture candid portraits of many icons as well as Blondie within the music and art world of the punk era, including Iggy Pop, David Bowie, The Ramones, Andy Warhol and more. This exhibition offers an insight into the fashions, attitudes and innocence of the time and is well worth stopping by before it closes on January 25th. Entry is free too, so you have no excuse not to pop along and marvel at the pink ceilings, huge framed photographs and generally just admire a bit of Debbie Harry at her very best.

If you can't make it down before the show closes, tune in for a live Q&A session with Chris Stein himself on Wednesday 21st January between 3-3.30pm. Follow #ChrisSteinNegative and keep an eye on the @BlondieOfficial and @SomersetHouse twitter accounts.
