Get the Christmas lights on, mull some wine, pop on your favourite cosy jumper and dig into some mince pies. The only thing missing is a good old Christmas movie to get you in the festive spirit. From the alternative to the traditional, these are our top 5 Christmas films you need to watch this week.

Edward Scissorhands
Admittedly we need little excuse to watch Johnny and Winona in the same film, but believe us, this really is a Christmas film. Everything comes to a head on the night of the Boggs' annual Christmas party as the tale of where snow really comes from is played out.

Scrooged
A modernised (well 80s) interpretation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol staring Bill Murray as a cynical TV exec taken on a dark and twisty trip full of black humour by the three ghosts of Christmas.

Bad Santa
Billy Bob Thornton is a very bad santa. Full of dark humour, evil deeds, heavy drinking, sex and profanities, this is certainly not a Christmas movie for kids.

Nightmare Before Christmas
The second Tim Burton film to appear on our top 5 festive flicks. Nightmare Before Christmas is a classic alternative xmas film blurring the boundaries between Halloween and Christmas.

It's a Wonderful Life
No December is complete with out the most traditional of Christmas films. It's a Wonderful Life is a heartwarming classic Christmas tale. A must-see at this time of year.
