FASHION WEEK REVIEW | AUTUMN WINTER 2014

The madness that is Fashion Week is still in full swing. So far we've seen the fashion worlds of Copenhagen, New York, London and Milan. And with Paris Fashion Week due to start tomorrow, it’s not over yet!

As we travel the fashion globe, we sample a little bit of what makes each fashion week so special and interesting. At Copenhagen we witness european minimalism at its very best. In New York we are presented with chic city fashion. London delivers cutting edge and original collections whilst Milan presents the ultimate in high end luxury fashion. Each is so unique and that is why we love them all!

At NAVY, we have always had a lot of love for Calvin Klein and at NYFW this month we were not disappointed. Delivering a collection of sleek minimalism infused with the nineties grunge influence seen on many of the catwalks these last two years. We love the chunky knitted jumpers presented in this collection which were teamed with lots of textured layers, sheer calf-length skirts, a muted colour palate and some bad ass lace up boots. Winter fashion with attitude.

Our other favourite from NYFW was Tadashi Shoji. A breathtaking AW14 collection of romantic yet edgy lace dresses which captured ornate details and had majestic velvet touches. Velvet is set to continue as big trend into the next year as well as the oversized capes we witnessed on many catwalks this season.

Next the fashion pack descended upon London. Renowned for presenting the most dynamic and creative of collections, LFW is our favourite fashion week of all! Here we witnessed the gothic brilliance of John Rocha’s Autumn Winter collection. Dark, romantic and full of volume! Rocha’s enduring interest in structure, layering and texture make his show a key one watch each and every season.

LFW is also well know for presenting a fantastic opportunity for young designers to present their first collections on the world’s stage. New talent was everywhere this season but the creativity and flair of Mariana Jungmann's debut collection impressed us no end! Her unusual techniques for creating laser cut lace and structured silhouettes shows a fresh and undeniably contemporary take on the boundaries of fashion. Surely one to watch!

Throughout the whole of this Fashion Week season there is one collection we have been desperately waiting to see. Dolce & Gabbana deliver a couture experience like no other and are arguably one of the most influential brands within fashion today. Having seen sneak peeks from their AW14 collection on the likes of Beyoncé in the past few weeks, we knew we were in for some truly stunning lace delights!
D&G presented the innocence of their fairytale forest with medieval themes and of course, an underlying sexiness long associated with the brand. Teaming gothic black lace with illustrated skirts and knits covered in whimsical cartoon creatures. Etherial lace glamour for Autumn Winter 2014.

But with Paris Fashion week only just beginning, it isn’t over yet. We’re always keeping an eye on the trend updates and finding new style inspiration but without a doubt, lace will be sticking around for yet another season! Total lace loving.
